Sorbus reducta. Dwarf mountain ash. Small shrub that often suckers to form thickets. It grows well with small  rhododendrons, dwarf conifers, heathers and the like. Flat panicles of typical white rowan flowers are followed by blush-pink berries. Before the glossy, serrated leaves drop in autumn, they often turn red or purple. Our plants are from seeds from the UBC Botanical Garden. Award of  Garden Merit (Royal Horticultural Society).

TSUGA  HEMLOCK

Note to customers outside British Columbia. September 2006: New regulations will soon govern shipment of Tsuga species within Canada and the United States. Once the rules are in place, we will ship only inside BC. The regulations are meant to limit the spread of an insect, Hemlock woody adelgid (Adelges tsugae). Our trees don't have this pest, but we can't afford the monitoring and paperwork that would enable us to ship these trees outside BC.

Tsuga heterophylla (Rafinesque) Sargent. Western hemlock.

Pot (1 gal. / 6").  In Canada C$8.00; elsewhere US$7.25.

Tsuga mertensiana (Bongard) Carrière. Mountain hemlock.  We like the tight form of this tree in our rock garden. Young mountain hemlocks are also good candidates for bonsai training.

Pot (1 gal. / 6").  In Canada C$10.00; elsewhere US$9.00.
