Magnolia virginiana Linnaeus Moonglow ® 'Jim Wilson'. Sweetbay magnolia.  The species, known for its beauty, perfume and tolerance of wet soils, is native to the eastern United States. This faster-growing, super-hardy columnar form was named for American gardening guru Jim Wilson. It produces creamy, lemon-scented flowers in spring, then keeps on blooming off and on all summer. The leaves have silvery undersides and are retained through the winter, at least where we are. Height to about 10.5 m x 4.5 m wide (35' × 15'). Zone 5, perhaps colder (reported hardy to -33°F [-36°C], which would make it Zone 3b).
