Mitella breweri Gray. Brewer's mitrewort. The flower has 5 pinnately divided petals, with 5 stamens spaced  between (rather than opposite) the petals. Click on our picture to see this clearly. The scalloped, heart-shaped leaves are basal and almost hairless.

Mitella nuda Linnaeus. Bare-stem mitrewort, Common mitrewort. The flower has 5 pinnately dissected petals. How to distinguish this from other mitreworts in the Pacific Northwest: there are 10 stamens. The scalloped, heart-shaped leaves are basal and have erect hairs on the upper surface.

Mitella pentandra Hooker. Five-stamen mitrewort. The flowers have 5 pinnately dissected petals and 5 stamens placed opposite (rather than between) the petals. The scalloped leaves shaped like long hearts are basal and usually have erect hairs on both surfaces.

Mitella trifida Graham. Three-toothed mitrewort. The flowers have 5 white petals with 3 narrow lobes at the top. The scalloped, heart-shaped leaves are basal and have hairs on the upper surface.
