Luetkea pectinata (Pursh)
Kuntze. This is the only species in its genus. Partridgefoot ~ its cut
leaves resemble the tracks of the Ptarmigan, or snow partridge ~ is native
to moist, gritty alpine and subalpine sites in western North America, from
Alaska and the Yukon south to California and Idaho. It thrives in partly
shady, moist gardens at lower elevations, creeping along on rhizomes to
form lush, evergreen mats. In our picture at left ~ please click on it ~ a
groundcover of Luetkea sets off Aster
foliaceus. In June
through September Luetkea puts up 5-15 cm (2-6") stems
capped by domes of small white flowers with golden hearts. Our plants are
grown from cuttings collected in the mountains of SW British
Columbia.
Pot 6 cm / 2.5". In Canada C$4.00; elsewhere
US$3.50.
