Lamiophlomis
rotata (Bentham ex J. D.
Hooker) Kudô. 独一味 Du
yi wei (Chinese). The sole member
of its genus, this prostrate
denizen of stony ground in W China and the Himalaya is sometimes
considered part of Phlomis. It makes a fascinating
rock-garden plant, with corrugated leaves in a flat rosette and dense
mounds or spikes of blue or purple flowers in late summer. In Tibet [Xizang] the root is used
in
traditional medicine to treat swelling and pain after trauma.
