We all know that hepaticas look different
from anemones, but many botanists say hepaticas are really anemones in
disguise. For now, we are keeping the European and Asian hepaticas on this
Hepatica page, while the North American hepaticas are filed under Anemone,
where we also briefly explain the separation.

Hepatica
maxima Nakai. Sometimes called Anemone maxima. This striking,
furry Korean woodlander is the largest
hepatica known, with fleshy, trilobed leaves up to 12 cm (5")
across and pink flowers that fade to white. It is native only to Ullong Island. Zone 6.
Blooming-size plant. $16.75
