Clarkia pulchella
Pursh. Elk-horns
Clarkia. As May approaches, we check every morning: Are the Clarkias
up? Their 3-lobed "elk horn" petals of fireweed-pink delight us.
This is an annual we would not be without. We find the simplest thing is
to establish a plant or two and let them seed around. Native
east of the Cascade Range from southern British Columbia to Oregon
and east to Idaho and Montana. Our plants descend from seeds collected in
the Columbia River Gorge. Height 12-30 cm (5-12"). Zone 5.
Not available this season.
