Ypsilandra thibetica Franchet.蕊花 Ya rui hua (Chinese). Several wands of white flowers with protruding, purple-tipped stamens rise above mounds of basal strap leaves in February-April. The name is from the Greek ypsilo (Y-shaped ) and andra (stamen), a description that does not apply to this species, though some members of the genus have anthers cleft like a peace sign into 3 lobes. This lily is rhizomatous and once settled in will produce offsets every year. Our plants are divisions of material collected in China, in NE Yunnan province, by Steve Hootman (SEH.165). At left you see Ypsilandra  unfolding in spring sleet. We have since learned to position it on a slope where it can lean a little without getting muddy. Height of flower stalk 10-30 cm (4-8"). Zone 6, possibly colder.

Blooming-size division (Fall shipping only). $12.00
