Eranthis
x tubergenii Bowles 'Guinea Gold' . Bright yellow
flowers, larger and longer-lasting than usual and fragrant,
bloom in March-April above a collar of
deeply incised bracts. This is the famous beauty raised by the Dutch
nurseryman J.M.C. Hoog, a cross of E. hyemalis and E. cilicica. The two species are sometimes treated as synonyms;
nonetheless this plant is sterile. More and more flowering stems arise as
the tuber enlarges, but it multiplies only by division. Height
10-15 cm (4-6"). Zone 5.
