This preliminary inventory of mosses
and liverworts derives from a workshop on bryophytes
led by the late Dr. W.B. (Wilf) Schofield
and Dr. T.T. (Terry) McIntosh in Chilliwack on April
14-16, 2000. The workshop was sponsored by the Native Plant Society of British
Columbia. Labs were held at the University College of the Fraser Valley. Fieldwork and social
gatherings took place at Hillkeep.
Wilf Schofield, who died in 2008, was professor emeritus of botany at the University of British
Columbia when the inventory was conducted. He produced the largest and most comprehensive bryophyte collection
in western North America and was the author of Introduction to Bryology; Some Common Mosses of British
Columbia; and Field Guide to Liverwort Genera of
Pacific North America.
Terry McIntosh's special study is the mosses of semi-arid British
Columbia. He is a biological and ecological consultant based in Vancouver.
