This preliminary inventory of mosses
and liverworts derives from a workshop on bryophytes
led by Dr. W.B. (Wilf) Schofield and Dr. T.T. (Terry) McIntosh in Chilliwack on April
14-16, 2000. The workshop was sponsored by the Native Plant Society of British
Columbia. Labs were held at the University College of the Fraser Valley. Fieldwork and social
gatherings took place at Hillkeep.
Wilf Schofield, professor emeritus of botany at the University of British
Columbia, has produced the largest and most comprehensive bryophyte collection
in western North America. He is the author of Introduction to Bryology
and Some Common Mosses of British Columbia. His Field Guide to Liverwort Genera of
Pacific North America (ISBN 0-295-98194-6) was published in 2002 by the
University of Washington Press with the Global Forest Society.
Terry McIntosh is a biological and ecological consultant based in Vancouver.
His special study is the mosses of semi-arid British Columbia.
